Very Good but not the Best

This is a very good book but it's real value today is for collectors. If you are serious about playing Battletech you need the Master Rules-Revised Edition. The Battletech Compenduim does not answer many questions plus it does not have new (COOL) weapons and equipment nor many rules explained in Master Rules. It is still a very good book but not for the hardcore "Techers".

excellent for those who have ventured into the game.

If you are a first-timer, this will have sections that may be difficult to understand, but once you enter the game it will open things up. It allows you to play at any level with players of other levels without feeling like the novice is totally out of his/her league. I found it helped considerably when we started to advance into creating Mechs, terrain and scenarios.

This book is the ultimate in Battletech compilations.

It involves all the rules for 'mechs, vehichles, infantry, and artillery in 3057. It also includes simplified rules for aerospace fighters and dropping 'mechs from dropships. All in all, all battletech players starting or into the game should have their own copy of this book.

Not a mere collection of Tweets ... an education in advertising.

Yes, it's just a book of Tweets. But no, they're not "just" Tweets. This is not your typical "2day i feel gud" Twitter dreck. This is a distillation of the marketing wisdom of the great ad man Lee Clow, responsible for Apple's legendary "1984" ad. It's highly usable stuff.

What's so strong about this book is that each entry is really a book's worth of wisdom. A single entry is enough to create some really powerful change. While extended reading can be a drag -- the thoughts taken together are pretty disjointed, and there are no paragraphs, only tweets -- taken a few a time, one could have the germ of a full advertising education.

Some I like:

"Make sure your goal isn't just a means masquerading as an end."

"A great brand's elevator pitch requires nothing more than the company name."

"Most ads barely communicate one message well. Let's not push our luck with two."

and my favorite:

"The facts of the matter are rarely the heart of the matter."

This book is highly recommended. Essential reading for anyone involved in any capacity whatsoever with advertising. Keep it on your desk.

Excellent thoughts

While this is a book about advertising, marketing, branding and such, rather than wasting page after page with theory and boring case studies of success, it uses the Tweet as the medium which forces the author to communicate complicated ideas with precision. Talk about eating your own dog food. "An ad should be an appetizer, not a buffet", or "Often, the more you say the less you're heard". Each tiny quote will have you both nodding your head in agreement and shouting out "That is it exactly!" (notice the lack of italics... read the book to find out why). Boiling it down, the book is about clear communication in not too few words, not too many, but just enough. The book is wonderful because it practices exactly what it preaches and succeeds marvelously at it.

Smart, succinct and a little bit shaggy

This is the best purchase I have made since starting my career in the world of advertising. It is chock full of profound little nuggets of truth, sprinkled throughout brilliantly designed pages. Since it is not necessary to read in any kind of sequential order, I find myself just randomly opening to a page and every time I am rewarded with words that I wish came from my own mouth. The built-in bookmark allows me keep my place as I run to my co-workers to share my most recent treasure. Currently, it rests on, "Design is often the difference between being ignored and being embraced."
I am constantly amazed that this extraordinary writer was able to say so much so well. Well done, Jason Fox. Not only were you able to get inside the head of a living icon, you were able to use his beard to speak for him in a way that even he applauded.

About the Author

Susan R. Beauchamp spent 15 years as a news and public affairs journalist before embarking on a college teaching career. A beautifully touching second chance love story

The ultimate second chance love story that is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.

Going into this book, I had a feeling that I was in for an emotional ride. Michelle (one of our blog reviewers) read this book about a week before me, and then she went on and on about her book hangover. So I held onto this book for a while, until I knew I had the time to read this in private, with tissues and alcohol on standby.

One New Year's Eve, Titan and Jesenia meet for the first time under the awning of the aptly named, Hope's Diner. On this day, Titan is consumed with grief and guilt to the point of wanting to end his life. Jesenia feels trapped in a loveless relationship which she can't walk away from, for unknown reasons. For a brief time, the two bond together and despite that limited time, never let those memories fade away.

Like many others, I am fascinated by the idea of Craig's List Missed Connections. How someone sees another or barely interacts with them, yet that moment impacts the other so greatly, they don't want to walk away. That's the basis of this story, as Titan tries to find the woman who not only saved his life, but whose eyes have a permanent place in his mind.

Given the time between their first meeting and the letter, I wasn't surprised how hard it was to find that connection with Jesenia. But Titan's letter is so romantic, it catches the attention of many and gathers momentum via social media.

It was amusing how Titan and Jesenia's paths cross again. I loved how there was no doubt between them that their time at the diner was a random moment. These two belonged together and some events just delayed their union. I also adored both of their kids, Jesenia's daughter, Angie, and Titan's son, Luke. They are such great kids and it was so sweet how they just wanted to see their parents happy.

As these two authors are known to do, I fully expected them to throw me a curveball. But I was distraught with what they threw at me. WHHHHYYYYY?!?! Although I as so mad at what they did to this couple, how it was handled was beautiful and touching. I pretty much cried thru the last 30% of the book, and barely could see the words the last 10%. My only ugly cry of 2015.

This is honestly one of the most touching stories I've read in a long time. I encourage everyone to dig in, grab tissues, and get ready to fall in love with this beautiful couple.

Well, that was a beautiful story- predictable but beautiful. After Jezebel I was anxious to read another of her novels, but not this. Well wrote, well executed but I am not one for heartbreaking novels

5 EMOTIONALLY UNFORGETTABLE STARS!!!

I’ve put off writing this review. I needed time. Well, my battered heart needed time. So now, here I sit trying to come up with the words to do this beautiful love story justice. I don’t think I can. I was entranced from prologue to epilogue. I couldn’t stop. My heart? It swelled, ached and shattered. My mind? It was consumed, overwhelmed and taken over by this stunning love story.

Ty owned me right from beginning to end. He is an incredibly noble and generous soul that stole my entire heart. Not just a piece. The whole damn thing. This man is an honest father who loves with all that he is. A man with an incredible spirit. He took a chance on a love from the past, he reached out and what he experienced in return with Jess was once in a lifetime love. This is a second chance love story. It is all encompassing. Beautiful. Sexy. Endearing. It is EVERY. FREAKING. THING. I cannot say enough about Jess and Ty’s love story.

I loved their children. Ty’s son Luke, my GOD. I love that kid hard. Jess’ daughter Angie? Ahhh! What a spunky girl. She’s so awesome. And together these two are so supportive of their parents’ love. I just adored that, it made this classic love story even more precious to me. These kids swept me off my feet. I felt like a part of their blended family. Oh! My heart! I felt the love, affection, joy and tears through each character. That is one of the most special feelings ever! And I will never forget it!

I was moved in every way imaginable by Missed Connection. I felt all the feels. Love. Sadness. Happiness. Heart ache. Heart break. Anger. Frustration. Hope. All of those feelings that grip onto your soul. I felt them with Ty, Jess and their family. Well, here come the tears again. My heart. I don’t know if it will ever heal from what I experienced, but I wouldn’t change a thing about this story. And Ty and Jess’ story is one I won’t soon forget. They will be forever anchored to my heart and soul.

I love that we got to see a happy ending for the Able family and that Tim was able to move on to a new love after losing Darcy's mother to a drunk driver - and by the way this book is a HOT read. To me they all got a happily ever after, Darcy and Sean get a baby, and Tim gets a new women.

A continuation of Darcy, Sean and Tom's story and it is one steamy book. It is a quick, hot, erotic read with an interesting storyline. The characters have an intense sexual chemistry throughout the story. Enjoyed this story very much.

About the Author
Ron Adler is professor emeritus at Santa Barbara City College, where he developed programs in interpersonal communication, business and professional communication, and communication theories. He has co-authored and edited several textbooks that address communication contexts and topics including interpersonal communication, small group communication, public speaking, assertiveness, and social skills. In addition to writing and teaching, he works with professional and business people to improve their communication on the job.

Russell F. Proctor II is a professor at Northern Kentucky University, where he has taught since 1991. He primarily teaches courses in interpersonal communication, interviewing, and communication pedagogy. In 1997 he won the university's Outstanding Professor Award. He is the author of numerous articles and textbooks focusing on interpersonal communication and communication education, with a particular interest in the use of feature films as instructional resources.

WARNING: Kindle Edition Missing Significant Parts of Book Due to "Copyright Restrictions"

I got this book for a course I am taking. Unfortunately, there are several excepts and related material that are omitted from the Kindle edition due to "Copyright Restrictions". The book itself is quite good, but if you end up being quizzed on or otherwise need these sections, you may be caught with your proverbial pants down. I wonder how long before publishers realize that these hassles are often the reason why people don't trust purchasing digital material.

Amazon should NOT sell this as the "Kindle Edition" of the printed book without at least clearly advertising that the book is missing material.

INCLUDES workbook/manual - Cheaper than both the hardcover book or separate manual

This is a really great deal. Each chapter in the book has the *manual* pages so you don't need to buy each product separately. You'll save a lot by buying this book (unless you find a friend who already has the hardcover book, then you can buy a used workbook).
The only difference from the hardcover book is that the pages are in black and white instead of in color. But who cares? Be realistic, you need this for a class, and then once the semester is over you'll never look at it again. The pages are properly numbered and coincide with the hardcover, so if your instructor tells you to turn to page #100, it'll be there like the hardcover book.

Almost liked it until "Content not Available due to Copyright Restrictions"

So I decide to purchase the kindle version of this textbook so save carrying weight, and a few dollars. I was very disapointed as I bagan reading the text, because in many cases there will be a lead up to an example then suddenly in am faced with a nice bomb of a message "Content not Available due to Copyright Restrictions".

I gave this two stars, bacause other than the missing content, this is a great book.

What? I was not warned when I purchased this online that I was looking at an incomplete textbook. I have found this message several times per chapter, and yes I have had instances where I missed points in class, or couldn't fully participate in the conversation about the reading because the exaplme being discussed is not in my E-Book.

I feel it's not appropriate at all to sell the book in anything but the same form as the print book without a warning. If there are copywright restrictions preventing you from producing a full digital version, then don't do it. Don't sell it to me, and pepper the book with little messages "oops, sorry, the people that bought the paper version get the whole book, but since this is digital you don't get the same thing" It happens so much in this book, I bet if the publisher had tried they could have gotten permission to use most of the content in the E-book, but they just didn't bother. It was just easier to strip all the borrowed content from it, us readers won't know till we've already paid for it anyway.

Bottom line, if you need this for a college class, save yourself the hastle and get the paper version, you can sell it to someone later anyway, unlike an E-Book.
