This is a dark romantic suspense with a cliffhanger as it is part 1 of 3 books. It's got love, hate, revenge, suspense, violence, greed, etc. It was a little too dark for me and I had a hard time connecting with one of the main characters (Adrian) but I found myself wanting to read the rest of the series once I started it. So I actually recommend it. Adrian ends up having to protect Brooklyn from his younger sadistic brother along with his father. Don't want to spoil your read, so you will have to figure out what line of business the men are into.

I was really excited to read this book but unfortunately (for me at least) i was so disappointed. I did enjoy the concept but i felt (1) the book was rushed; (2) wasn't as dark as i had hoped. Having read many dark reads i expected a lot more with the "being held captive" aspect. Sorry but can only give this 3 stars at best.

Dark Suspenseful Dangerous Romance.. Not Your typical fare

His to Take is a dark romance first set in New York where Adrianne was talking to her BFF about an internship she just got. Then her father called and told her to be outside when she was done. She was kidnapped in lieu of her father paying a debt to some very bad people. Transferred to Italy and found herself in a dark cell. No one would give her any info as to where she was or what was she doing there. She then finds out the son of the Man who kidnapped her is suppose to break her in as a sex slave and it is someone she knows. Someone she met several years ago when she was 16 and he was 20. She has loved him all these years and when she sees him for the first time she revolts not understanding what is happening to her. He reveals everything to her including that he loved her. They escape from his cruel father who disowned him and they traveled around the world and got her back in touch with her fashion designs. One day having breakfast there was a rose with a note card that said "she wasn't yours to take". They rapidly decided it was time to get the heck out of there quickly..... end of book one on to book two I can't wait to find out what happens.

About the Author
W. James Popham,  professor emeritus at the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, began his career as a high school teacher in Oregon and then moved to the University of California at Los Angeles, where for nearly 30 years he taught courses in instructional methods for prospective teachers as well as courses in evaluation and measurement for graduate students. At UCLA he won several distinguished teaching awards and was recognized by UCLA Today as one of UCLA’s top 20 professors of the twentieth century.   The author of more than 30 books and hundreds of scholarly papers, Dr. Popham is a former president of the American Educational Research Association and the recipient of the National Council on Measurement in Education Award for Career Contributions to Educational Measurement.

This book should be required reading for every teacher!

I purchased this book because it was required for an assessment class in my graduate studies. However, I wish it had been required reading before I began my teaching career. Difficult concepts are written with humor and in easy to understand language. What teachers really need to know about assessment is spelled out clearly by the author. It will be a go-to resource for constructing my own classroom assessments, as well as when I want to analyze assessments created by others. I highly recommend every classroom teacher read it and add it to their resource library.

good info to know as a parent of soon to be teenager

this is a book full of info! i have an 11 soon to be 12 year old and this is a must read for parent. it is required text in my graduate school and did i say it had plenty of useful info in it. BUT the author is hard to follow, his vocabulary is just over my head. i highlight words i dont know or understand and just write the meaning in the margins. almost one on ever page or two. but still with that you still get the picture. really i believe it will make you look at your younger or soon to be teenager different and i also think it will make you think twice about how to react to many situations. author just needs one of these in a dummy version.

A Textbook that Isn't Dry or Boring

For the first time, I have actually found myself laughing at a text book. I remember, dear reader, thinking the same thing - "it's a text book. It cannot possibly be funny." Well, if you are a sucker for good puns and lighthearted presentation of material, then you will enjoy this text. I am finding the information presented in a clear and easily understood manner, a testament to the author who clearly is an expert in this field. The information is current, up to date, and takes into consideration that teachers are people too. The advice is practical and I am sure that I will find myself referring back to this in the years to come!

The emergence of camera phones, bloggies, and social networking sites has seemingly made everyone a photographer, but in reality, these have only become snapshot specialists. On the flip side, there is the veritable plethora of books for "true" photographers that provide everything from the right camera settings to the rules of composition to how to process the photograph. At some point, there is much redundancy and information saturation that becomes counterproductive. Dave Melges provides the missing link with an easily readable book about the "approach" to photography. The most important photographic tool is what is between your ears. If you don't know where you are going, any road will take you there. Dave doesn't tell you what road to take, but provides insights on how to get there anyway with stories that take little space, but provide huge impact. This is a must have for your camera bag

A truly new unique way of rethinking the photography process. The stories are insightful and told in a way that you almost forget you're reading a book about photography. The book has something for everyone even if you are not into photography, it has a way of changing the way you think and analyze things in daily life. It is definitely a book that can change the way you map out your creative process before you even grab your camera.

A Extremely Useful Resource!

My MLS Immunology professor used this book for our case studies, and it was a very helpful study guide as it explained basic concepts of Immunology different than a traditional textbook would. It really helps you understand the etiology and physiology of various disease states, AND you can read just like a regular book. Easy to understand and follow. I highly recommended.

Slayde's got the best job on earth: he's a nanny to Army nurse and widow Mindy's three kids. He's been with the family since the oldest was born and is Uncle Slayde to all three children. When Mindy's deployed, things aren't easy, but he manages just fine. At least he does until Mindy's big brother Drake shows up unexpectedly, announcing he's there to help while Mindy is gone.

Drake is almost a stranger to the kids, hot as hell, especially in his motorcycling leathers, and straighter than straight. On top of that, Drake's not used to dealing with kids, or with things like gluten free, recycling and not eating fast food and soon has Slayde's tight routine in shambles.

Slayde thinks Drake is far more of a hindrance than a help, at least at the start, but he tries to get along for Mindy's sake and eventually, having Drake around is easier than not. But what's he supposed to do when the straight, sexy leather wearing ex-cop makes a pass at him one night? Maybe there's more to Drake than Slayde assumed.

Enjoyable

I unfortunately tend to read these types of books up in a day or two. However, I must say I enjoyed this quite a bit. The characterization of the children was especially charming, and very realistic. They were kids, and spoke as such. You could feel the love that was held by the adults for them. The relationship because the adults, obviously why most are reading this, wasn't too shabby either. This follows the formula of having a more pure top and pure bottom character. Some people don't care for that, but that's kind of how I like the characters to be in these novels. Either way, it was a sweet book, and I enjoyed it.

I give this four stars. I'm a straight female and I can still relate with this book. It's about love, family and acceptance. And the love between two individuals. I would recommend it.

I loved this book! It was a great read without crazy drama. Of course there was the whole people don't know i'm gay for Drake but every book has to have some hurdle. I loved how Slayde handled everything that happened and I am so glad that the whole books wasn't wasted on trying to fight the attraction. That whole sexual frustration can be good in a book but it can also be annoying and i'm glad I didn't have to deal with that in this one. I would definitely recommend this book!
