About the Author
Russell A. Barkley, PhD, ABPP, ABCN, is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Barkley has published numerous books and more than 260 scientific articles and book chapters on ADHD, executive functioning, and childhood defiance. He is also the editor of the newsletter The ADHD Report. Dr. Barkley is well known for his pioneering research on ADHD in both children and adults. His rating scales are based on more than 16 years of research using prototypes of the scales, and are normed on large samples representative of the U.S. population. Irwin Shaw was born in New York in 1913 and began his literary career writing short stories, and plays for the stage and radio. During World War Two he served in North Africa, the Middle East and all over Europe, and it was after the war that he achieved widespread acclaim with his first novel, The Young Lions. Irwin Shaw wrote more than a dozen novels, all of which became worldwide bestsellers. Beggarman, Thief

Rereading this work after 30 years was as deeply satisfying as the first time. Irwin Shaw had this talent not a lot of novelists do -- he made you care about the characters, who embedded themselves in your feelings and stayed in memory. I cared about Wesley and worried that Rudolph might finally reach his limits as family champion. At the time of the first reading I had no idea "Rich Man, Poor Man," and "Beggarman, Thief" were blockbusters, only that the stories were deeply satisfying. And you know what: in "Rich Man" I even enjoyed the behavior of Rudolph's father with the French teacher. This time around, I will keep the two books with me.

I was happy to find out that Rich Man, Poor Man, which immediately became one of my favorite books after I finished it, had a sequel. Being a sequel, it definitely didn't live up to Rich Man, Poor Man, but I considered it an excellent follow up. It was cool to see all the characters from the original and the book had a lot of events in it, as did the last one, which is what I love about them. I wasn't at all disappointed and this is probably my favorite series of books.

Not as good as Rich Man, Poor Man but a good sequel nonetheless. I ended RM, PM wondering more about the characters (a sign of a good book to me I might add) and was delighted to read B,T. Definitely need to read them both to feel satisfied.

I'm as liberal and open minded as the next immature, foul-mouthed cretin, but I had to put this slim volume down every twenty minutes and take a shower.
This is some foul, filthy stuff that is right up the Aristocrats alley.
Extremely funny, but not for the weak-hearted or religious crowd.

Doug Stanhope is my favorite comedian and this is him at his best. He takes to catch a predator to a whole new funny level. Its a quick read but well worth it since i laughed through the entire book, and cried from laughing so hard through the whole book as well.

This book is a twisted version of Dateline: To Catch a Predator. They work with a group called Perverted Justice, an organization dedicated to identifying adults on the internet willing to have chat room sexual encounters with minors. Doug Stanhope is Perverted Justice in real time. He's like an auxiliary police officer on permanent leave determined to root out this evil in the most hilarious way. We all know those cop shows where the cop is tired of the rules and he gets fired from the force and although he's off duty he still tracks down the criminal? This is Fun with Pedophiles: The Best of Baiting. Doug Stanhope hunts them down with a mouse and keyboard and drills everything into their head that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. Let's face it if Dateline can find a pedophile that easy so can Doug Stanhope. Fun with Pedophiles is a masterful collection of real world transcripts from the superhero of trickery. I got the feeling that every pederast Doug chatted with was left in such a state of confusion they crawled into a corner and began babbling incoherent word syllables until they were unable to feed themselves. This book is raw comedic genius. It's reality TV in book form with gut splitting laughter, ironic justice and of course the psychotic humor of Doug Stanhope.

If you want to manufacture better-- here you go.

I must say that I first read this because I had to, but onceI did it (really, now) changed my outlook on production. The author details not only the whys of good manufacturing practice, but also the hows and then goes into many case studies to demonstrate that he's not just blowing smoke from his ivory tower. Even better, the stuff works! One division of my company got hooked on the "World Class" bandwagon before it came into vogue. I went to tour their facility and I swore I had walked into Schonberger's book. Anyway, applied correctly, this book can turn your systems upside down and make you more profitable than you can almost imagine (inventory turns over 100? Believe it!). The best thing is that all this happens by developing employees and truly giving the line responsibility for production to the individual line workers. Tough stuff for most companies to even consider, and perhaps my only criticism of the book is that the author doesn't give an accurate picture of how long a transition from "traditional" management to World Class Mfg can require. Our facility worked for six years to get it right, which is actually very good for this transition (he says allow for a 10 year plan in his 1996 sequel, also excellent). Anyway, I'm putting theory into practice in my own mfg line, and thankfully I have this book to guide me. I'm buying copies for everyone in my production team and we'll "go back to school," so to speak. Wish me luck.

Richard J. Schonberger, author of the critically acclaimed book, Japanese Manufacturing Techniques, which revolutionized American manufacturing theory and practices, now examines how world-class manufacturing techniques can be implemented by American corporations. This 1986 classic remains valuable, since manufacturing changes do not happen overnight, and plenty of companies are far from world-class in their approach to efficiency and productivity. Schonberger writes clearly, authoritatively and often amusingly, covering every element of world-class manufacturing in detail. We at getAbstract recommend this book for everyone involved in the manufacturing process, not just mangers and executives, but all employees who seek a context and a future for their work.

Hall keeps a high standard.

This short book is filled with unpretentious wisdom, as typically shaped by Mr Hall. Neither astrology nor reincarnation are presently on top of my list of curiosities, which means that I haven't read too much on the subject. Having said that, this book gives insights that seem very precise, and adds a way of thinking about the zodiac signs that I hadn't read anywhere before.

Much room for improvement

Mixed feeling on this book. Some chapters are wonderfully written and quite insightful. Other ones get lost on technicalities and fail to produce any interesting point. Overall it is unsure whether it treats the subject (brand mascots) comercially or as an academic paper. I confess I had higher expectations.

At the same time, it promotes a particular theoretical paradigm, suggesting that urban design is best viewed as a branch of spatial political economy. The selection of articles advances this idea as far as possible, both in its organization and in its content.

The reader includes work from the past 30 years by such world famous authors as Manuel Castells and David Harvey, as well as writing by lesser known scholars which deserves a wider audience. The overall organization of the book is carefully explained in relation to the subject matter by the editor.

About the Author
Alexander Rankine Cuthbert is Professor of Planning and Urban Development at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. He has lived and worked in the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia and has experience in large-scale urban design projects in a variety of different countries. He has studied architecture, urban design, urban planning, and political science, and his interest in ‘designing cities' is therefore informed by a broad intellectual base.

crappy shipping

The book is great, in perfect condition as promised. But I got expedited shipping since this book was for class...and the fastest they had was 4-8 days....well, it was promised at least by 8 days, and it came about 14 days after processed.

When I tried to check the tracking on it, I couldn't, I could only check that it was "supposed to arrive on or before sept 8", but never the official tracking notification.

I was severely disappointed.

Not good as I hope

This book is not good as I hope, I have the book: City reader before so it was a bad dicission to buy this book afterward. The city reader book is much much better!!! However this book has covered most of the main components of city design! That's all.

In this monograph, Chris Featherman adopts a discourse analytical approach to explore the ways in which social movement ideologies and identities are discursively constructed in new and old media. In the context of his argument, Featherman also considers current debates surrounding the role that technologies play in democracy-building and global activist networks. He engages these critical issues through a case study of the 2009 Iranian presidential election protests, looking at both US legacy media coverage of the protests as well as activists’ use of social media. Through qualitative analysis of a corpus of activists’ Twitter tweets and Flickr uploads, Featherman argues that activists’ social media discourses and protesters’ symbolic and tactical borrowing of global English contribute to micronarratives of globalization, while also calling into question master narratives about Iran commonly found in mainstream Western media accounts. This volume makes a timely contribution to discussions regarding the relationship between cyber-rhetoric and democracy, and provides new directions for researchers engaging with the influence of new media on globalized vernaculars of English.
