About the Author
Martin Windrow was born in 1944 and educated at Wellington College. Since the 1970s he has worked in book publishing as a commissioning and art editor specializing in military and aviation history, and is currently a freelance editor and writer working from his home in Sussex, England. He is an Associate of the Royal Historical Society and of the Foreign Legion Association of Great Britain. In 2004 his major study The Last Valley: Dien Bien Phu and the French Defeat in Vietnam was published to critical acclaim in Britain and the US.

Another Osprey winner!

Osprey does it again! They have produced a very nice pocket compendium of military uniforms from all over the ages and continents that is great! Some of the pictures do come from other Osprey series but many are not and are of great quality. This is a great book for both a yourng reader early in their studies of military history and an avid collector. Great pricing and a great book, glad I have a copy

Warrior Garb Through the Centuries!

Martin Windrow's WARRIORS, FIGHTING MEN AND THEIR UNIFORMS is a quick, once-over guide to warrior garb from 1288 BC to the present. A 2015 Osprey Publishing release, it will serve as an enjoyable, colorful primer on the subject for military fans of all ages.
Windrow's book spotlights 100 examples of garb divided into 'The Ancient World,' 'The Medieval World,' 'Early Modern Warfare,' 'Imperial Wars,' '19th Century Wars,' etc. The first entry describes/illustrates a War chariot of Ramses II circa 1288 BC. The last entry covers Russian Spetsnaz troops circa 2008-2014. Other entries include 5th Century Frankish warriors, 14th Century Welsh and English archers, Napoleonic War French infantry, 1863 CSA volunteers, 1940 British troops, 11th Century Norman knights, 18th Century Great Lakes Indian tribes, 1914 German troops, 14th Century Japanese noblemen, 1960s VC guerillas, 1st Century Celtic light warriors and so on. Each entry gets a two-page write-up with an accompanying color artwork by Angus McBride, John Pohl, Michael Johnson and other artists. Spoiler alert: The artwork is lifted from various Osprey ELITE and MAA volumes.
Given its wealth of nicely-rendered illustrations and easy-on-the-pocketbook price of $14.95, WARRIORS would make a good stocking stuffer for military buffs. Recommended.
